Little Theatre of Alexandria's (LTA) Light-hearted Comedy Completes Another Great Season of Local Community Theater.

With the LTA 1999/2000 season coming to an end, “Moon over Buffalo,” by playwright Ken Ludwig, runs from June 9 until July 1, 2000. Producers Anna Hawkins and Kevin O’Dowd collaborate with director C. Evans Kirk to provide LTA patrons with a light-hearted comedy to complete another great season of local community theater.

“Moon over Buffalo” takes place in the backstage area of a theater in the artistic hinterlands of Buffalo, NY. But the catch is you are able to view the play’s stage from a see-through curtain.  As the audience looks into the dressing room, George, played by Rob Mangus, finds that his past has caught up with him after an adulterous night with fellow actor Eileen, played by Antigone Juvelis.  Sharon Ellzey  plays his wife, Charlotte, who learns of his antics and decides to leave him and their tumultous theater life in favor of the more stable (read: wealthy and handsome) lawyer Richard, played by John Delaney.  Their marriage and acting careers on the skids, daughter Roz comes to visit with news of her own new engagement to a stable (read: non-actor) young man, played by Paul Newport. Add to this plot the fact that her former beau, Paul (played by Paul Roberts) continues to work with Charlotte and George as they sink deeper into the depths of acting careers that are going nowhere.

This is just the beginning of the twists and turns each character will face during the evening as the audience watches the relationships unfold, each with a degree of almost slapstick comedy. Helping to pull this together is Charlotte’s Mother, Ethel, played by Joyce Weiser.  Ethel is a meddling, opinionated mother whose selective hearing allows her to say and do whatever she pleases, a character to which many audience members can apparently relate!

“Moon over Buffalo” is cleverly done by a wonderful cast of characters.  LTA is supported by a group of committed individuals who work to see that community theater is available and accessible to local residents.  The new season for The Little Theatre of Alexandria starts July 28 and all seats have unobstructed views of the stage. Ticket prices are quite affordable and a season package allows the patron to enjoy many evenings of live theater. For further information call 703-683-5778.
