graphic of historic LeesburgStart Your Visit at the Loudoun Museum with the video program. You'll experience much of the history and the beauty of Loudoun's towns, villages and countryside.

Afterwards, journey back thousands of years as you view the collection of Indian arrowheads, pottery, and axeheads. You are invited to experience the "hands-on" display which shows how the Indians made their stone tools.

The Colonial Era exhibit includes the original plan of Leesburg, in which land owner Nicholas Minor drew up lots for sale as he began to develop the town of Leesburg. art clip of spinning wheelAlso on exhibit is a copy of a journal by Nicholas Cresswell, a visiting Englishman during the American Revolution. He found Loudoun, as elsewhere, angered by English policies and ready for war.

The 19th Century Loudoun exhibit includes an original 1853 map of Loudoun locating farms and their owners, mills, roads, canals, and railroads. You'll see evidence of how prosperous Loudoun was during these years by viewing farming and milling artifacts, silver flatware, made in Leesburg, stock certifcates and other items.

The Civil War came into full force in Loudoun County in October of 1861 with the battle of Ball's Bluff near Leesburg. Discover from this battle and smaller Loudoun skirmishes and familiarize yourself with Loudoun's struggle among its own citizens. You'll discover that Loudoun was a true example of where brother fought brother.

20th Century Loudoun exhibits illustrate how the county has continued to grow and prosper. Famous persons such as General George Marshall, President Kennedy, and entertainer Arthur Godfrey have chosen Loudoun's "Hunt Country" as their home. Even with the modern pressures of urban growth and development, Loudoun strives to maintain its tradition, rural beauty, and charm -- truly exemplifying Lord Loudoun's motto, "I Byde My Time."art clip of grandfather clock
